Godfrey is the chairman of our organization and a respected youth leader in the community. Born in Mathare, he has always been deeply committed to giving back to his neighborhood. His support is essential to everything we do, and his deep understanding of the local context is invaluable to the organization’s success. In addition to his role in the organization, Godfrey is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Nai Nami, a social enterprise that offers young people from the slums a sustainable future by empowering them to earn an honest living through storytelling. Nai Nami leads tourists through downtown Nairobi, where youth share powerful personal accounts of life on the streets and the resilience it took to overcome those challenges. In 2018, Godfrey happened to cross paths with Madam Mary at a local market. She opened up about the difficulties she was facing, and after visiting her school, he immediately committed to supporting her however he could. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Roots Institute Centre was entirely funded through Nai Nami. Their shared long-term vision is to build a permanent school where street children have a real chance to reintegrate into society and build a better future.
